The UV-K5 Ver 3 USB-C Adapter comes in two versions: one with a 3.5mm male plug, and one with a 3.5mm female jack. Both plug into your radio’s USB-C port the same way — the difference is only in how you connect your CW key on the other end. Use the diagrams below to see how each version is wired up.

3.5mm Male Plug version
If your adapter has a male 3.5mm plug sticking out of it, it plugs directly into a CW key that has a female 3.5mm jack — no extra cable required.

3.5mm Female Jack version
If your adapter has a female 3.5mm jack, you’ll need a standard 3.5mm TRS male-to-male cable to bridge it to a CW key that also has a female jack. If your CW key already has its own male 3.5mm plug, you can skip the patch cable entirely and plug the key straight into the adapter.

Radio Compatibility
This adapter is for the UV-K5 Version 3 radio (and UV-K1). If you have a UV-K5 Version 1, use the CEC cable adaptor instead. Not sure which radio you have? Check here.
Due to hardware variations, we’re having mixed results using this setup with the UV-K1 radio. Some users are having flawless operation, while others experience erroneous input errors. You’re welcome to experiment with the UV-K1 radio but we can’t say with absolute certainty that it will work.
